Two new members have joined the New Mexico Games Board of Directors to replace the retirement of old members. Radio talk show host Fred Slow and retired City of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs Supervisor Ed Nunez have been voted seats at the table when it comes to helping move things forward for the New Mexico Games.
The addition of the members comes shortly after former Executive Director Fred Hultberg retired for the NM Games and was replaced with Sports Entrepreneur and Owner of the New Mexico Runners Professional Arena Soccer team Andres Trujillo back in August.
Slow hosts ABQ Central, a radio show featured every Saturday morning from 8-11 AM on AM 610 KNML. Originally from St. Louis, he moved to Albuquerque from Illinois back in 2017 where he worked as a Parks Coordinator for the City of Wood River. Fred immediately began his work at Del Norte Sports and Wellness as an Assistant General Manager up until June of 2020. He currently works with Big Brothers and Big Sisters as their Community Relations and Development Specialist for their Mountain Region.
Fred's community work is well noted as he has over 10 years of fundraising experience, event management, promotions and partnership efforts for organizations including Boys and Girls Club, Rotary International, and Habitat for Humanity.
"Fred will bring his community experience to the table and create new partnerships which will take the New Mexico Games to the next level! I'm glad someone of his caliber has joined the board." Says Executive Director Andres Trujillo.
Nunez retired from the City of Albuquerque with 30 years of service looks to bring his community resource experience to the table. His ability to connect with families in the community is evident as he managed and supervised community centers around the Albuquerque area for 25 years. Ed also created programming for seniors which promoted health, wellness, scam awareness and many others.
Ed also has been a major influence in the New Mexico sports scene. He officiated high school basketball for 22 years including NMAA State High School Basketball Tournaments. Nunez is a play-by-play sports announcer for ProView Networks as well as the "voice" of Western New Mexico University Athletics. His vocal talents are showcased at University of New Mexico Athletic events through his job as a PA announcer.
"Ed Nunez is the epitome of New Mexico sports. His ability to connect with our community on a sports level will give our organization the coordination and direction we need to grow the number of participants." Trujillo mentions.
The New Mexico Games continues to make plans for 2021 events and the plans will become more clear as we find out what New Mexico's sports and group gathering restrictions will be in 2021.
Athletes may still participate in virtually in the Virtual Run! This event is the only event the New Mexico Games has offered in 2020. This event is socially distant conscious and can be done anytime and anywhere. Participants interested may SIGN UP HERE.
